Why are we doing this?

Currently, 3 out of 100 potential travelers refrain from their journeys due to safety concerns. This issue costs the USA $494MN each year in lost tourism revenue. Whereas, Asia-Pacific tourists' safety concerns account for a 24% loss in traction from 2021-2022, accounting for a 33.2% decline in jobs in the travel & tourism sector.

Whether you want to prioritize markets, sightseeing spots, or something else, our app will automatically generate a route tailored to your preferences.

Real Time Information

Our app provides real-time information to ensure your safety. We are constantly in touch with Local Police Departments and our maps are live time updated with the latest safety information about the route you plan to take. Our advanced algorithm will always take you to the safest route.

Safety Conscious Navigation

The application is built around police data collection, previous location, and precise criminology details, In terms of classifying crime, the utilization of K-means algorithms is taken into account in our construction. K-means is a popular clustering algorithm used in unsupervised machine learning to partition a given dataset into k distinct groups based on their feature similarities. Each group represents a cluster, and the algorithm minimizes the within-cluster variance.

Our Process

Gathering Crime Data

Ensuring it contains relevant features that describe each crime incident (e.g., location, type of crime, date, time, etc.). Preprocess the data by cleaning, normalizing, and transforming it as needed.

Sorting

Select the features from the crime data most relevant to analyze. In our case, focus on the geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), time, and the type of crime.

Most likely, the data units would have different measurements, some being discrete, while some being percentage amounts; standardization techniques/normalization will take place to represent “feature selection.”

The Elbow Method

The elbow method is a technique used to determine the optimal number of clusters (k) in K-means clustering. It helps to find the point where the reduction in within-cluster variance or sum of squared distances significantly slows down, indicating diminishing returns on increasing the number of clusters. The "elbow" point on the plot represents the optimal value of k. This is the method how we determine the clusters for our project.

Our Story

87% of Travellers have travel safety concerns when visiting new areas. Most travelers consist of holidaymakers, who often rely on Travel Agents/Booking sites when traveling, which do not guarantee the physical safety of tourists. Many agencies have contracts stating that they are not responsible for the matter. Backpackers often are unaware of the safety measures to take when traveling through particular areas of their journey. These facts often build anxiety when traveling.

Our Application will not only encourage the average tourist to explore the world in which we live but also give a MAJOR boost to the tourism and travel industry as a whole.

We aim to build the go-to application for tourists, focusing on this untapped tourist safety market, making safety a priority, bigger than a signed piece of paper.
